Dr. Ljung Volunteers with Operation Rainbow in Guatemala

operation rainbowAs a part of his summer, Wilmington plastic surgeon Dr. Tor Ljung will be donating his time and skills by volunteering in Guatemala with Operation Rainbow.

Operation Rainbow is a non-profit that provides free orthopedic surgery for children who require surgery worldwide, but lack access to proper medical assistance. Some of the operations provided for these young patients have included surgery of the hip, legs and feet.

In his role as a reconstructive and plastic surgeon working for Operation Rainbow, Dr. Ljung will treat more than 50 children who struggle with congenital craniofacial defects. This may include repairing a condition more common like a cleft lip and palate or may delve into repairing a deformed skull.

Dr. Ljung will perform these and other procedures this summer at the Fundacion Pediatrica Guatemalica.
