Body

Surgical procedures in body contouring can address a wide variety of cosmetic problems around the hips, thighs, abdomen, arms, buttocks, back, breasts and elsewhere.  After body weight fluctuations or pregnancy, your body might have excess skin or pockets of unwanted fat.  In some cases, your lifestyle may not be to blame, but rather a congenital or hormonal condition is the root cause of the problem.

Major medical advances have been made in the field of surgical body contouring.  These leaps and bounds have been driven in part by patients who are able to lose weight.  As more people reach their target body weight, we’re seeing an increased need for cosmetic solutions to these body related problems.

The following procedures are commonly performed by plastic surgeons to enhance body shape or correct issues related to excess skin after weight loss.  Choose one of the following links for more information:

Liposuction

Liposuction is a procedure that can help sculpt the body by removing unwanted fat from specific areas, including the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck.

Tummy Tuck

Abdominoplasty, known more commonly as a tummy tuck, is a major surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen and to tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall.

Arm Lift

Arm lift surgery removes loose skin and excess fat deposits in the upper arm.  The aging process or significant changes in body weight can leave a person with sagging upper arms and excess skin.  If you want to tighten the skin of this area, ask your surgeon about brachioplasty.

Thigh Lift

Improving contours of the inner or outer thigh can be achieved with a thigh lift.  This may require an incision extending from the groin around the hip. Through these incisions your plastic surgeon will tighten tissues for a smoother, better toned thigh.

Body Lift

A body lift is a series of surgical techniques that remove excess skin from the lower body after massive weight loss.  This rather extensive set of operations is typically performed for patients who have lost about 50 percent of their body weight.

Calf Implants

Calf Augmentation can enhance the shape and size of your lower legs using special silicone rubber implants.  Your plastic surgeon can surgically place implants on the inner calf or outer calf in order to correct shrunken or disproportionate lower legs.

Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is designed to treat a condition called labial hypertrophy, identified by large or irregular labia minora.  Physicians have linked the condition to genetic causes as well as lifestyle factors. Surgery can improve the natural aesthetic appearance of the labia minora without affecting sensation.

Male Breast Reduction

Male breast reduction can correct excess, feminine-like breast tissue on a man.  Dr. Ljung uses liposuction and surgical excision techniques to remove the fat and glandular tissue that reside on the patient’s chest.  In many cases, male breast reduction is performed to correct a bothersome condition called gynecomastia.
